History of SAKAI knives
SAKAI has been famous place of kitchen knives.
SAKAI has the Mozu Tumulus Group ,especially Nintoku-ryo Tumulus is the largest in the world.
It is said that in the fifth century, people who were producing plows or hoes made a group and established the basics of forging technology.
In the age of civil wars, Japanese sword and gun were manufactured.
Tobacco was imported from Portugal in the 16th century. A lot of knives for cutting tobacco leaves became necessary when cultivation of tobacco began in our country.
When law banning private possession of swords was announced in 1876, the traditional technology was made use of as the Japanese Knife proud to the world.
Then Sakai Traditional Blades was designated as Traditional crafts in 1982.
Sen-no-Rikyu
He is master of tea ceremonies born in Sakai and father of "Senke".
He worked under Hideyosi Toyotomi and is well known for a man who finished up "Wabicha".
Akiko Yosano
She was a poet, a writer, and a thinker who played an active part from the Meiji era to the Showa era.
She built the height of prosperity of the romanticism with her husband "Tekkan Yosano".
And moreover she devoted herself to the position improvement of women through the women's suffrage movements.
